ZUK Z1 LENOVO REVIEW

PHONE August 9, 2016

zuk-z1.jpg.pagespeed.ce.oSvT-qReNR

Chinese manufacturers lately preferring the strategies of creating sub-brands and in today’s case ZUK has been backed by none other than the Chinese giant Lenovo with their logo proudly available on the ZUK Z1 box. It is launch in May 2016 with a price tag of 13,499.
While Lenovo serves as the parent company of ZUK its plan is to let ZUK be its own brand. But ZUK is certainly doing its own thing, the ZUK Z1 is based on reliable, proven technology. The Snapdragon 801 chipset was chosen as the heart and Cyanogen OS as the brain for the ZUK Z1.Cyanogen OS is still making its appearance but those are promising and the company has been pretty active and regular with its own fork of Android AOSP. The chipset used is well proven and an excellent in performance.
In the case of the camera, the old is gold thing is right- Sony’s IMX 214 sensor is already used by pretty much every self-respecting mid-ranger, but the ZUK Z1 boasts optical image stabilization to make its camera different from its competitor. It’s rare to see so many points in the disadvantages section. No microSD slot is there in the phone which is an issue. But it’s greedy to want more from a 13500 phone with 64GB storage. Same for the battery – it’s non-removable, but makes up for it with capacity 4100.
Pros
• Excellent display provided, perhaps the best at this price range, with great colors and vibrant
• Nice, premium, polished, esthetic design
• Strong build quality
• Weight and size ratio is quite manageable at 175g
• CynogenMod 12 allows deeper control on the display – you can tweak the color temperature, and choose different temperatures for day and night
• The CyanogenMod UI allows a bunch of customizations, that will come in handy if you are a customization lover, otherwise, it retains a nearly-stock Android interface
• The UI is smooth and stable too, that performs well
• Even after using old type of processor the performance is lag free, which indicates how well the software has been optimized for this phone
• Good front camera, good for selfies
• Good rear camera in well-lit conditions
• Decent fingerprint sensor , accurate
• Very good battery life – can last over a day on fair use
• Very good audio quality available
• If you like modding your smartphone and have been waiting for a CyanogenMod-powered phone worth buying, this is it
• The Zuk branded phones are also the only Lenovo devices where rooting won’t void the warranty
• Big 64GB internal memory
Cons
• This isn’t an ergonomic smartphone – it’s quite wide, which puts single handed usage out of question, gripping is not so good
• Rear camera could have been better and have good results under low-light conditions
• The camera is also just a little slow in focus speed, compared to the top competitors of this phone in this price range such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
